CORROSION REVIEWS

Instructions for Authors

An invited review should be submitted directly to the Editor-in-Chief or member of the International Editorial Board who invited it.  Unsolicited reviews should be submitted directly to one of the Editors-in-Chief, contingent on his preapproval of  the outline.

A good topical review should provide a broad introduction to the subject area for the general reader and/or newcomer to the field.  The review should also provide an update to those who already have a deeper knowledge of the field by reporting on recent significant developments.

Manuscripts should be submitted in English in both electronic (by e-mail or on a CD-ROM) and hard copy (1 original + 2 copies) versions.  They should be typed double-spaced on one side of a good quality A4 (or Letter) paper.  The recommended font is Times New Roman, 12 pt, and the margins – 3 cm from each side.  Indent each new paragraph.  An accompanying cover letter should also be provided.  The name and complete contact information (including telephone and fax numbers, e-mail address, and postal address) of the corresponding author should be given.

Follow this order when typing manuscripts: Title, Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords, main text, Acknowledgements, Appendices, References, Figure Captions, and Tables.  The review should have an Abstract of 50-200 words, provided on a separate sheet.  The Abstract should comprise a brief and factual account of the contents and conclusions of the review as well as an indication of any new information presented and its relevance.  Abstracts should be understandable in isolation, and reference to formulae, equations or references that appear in the main text is thus not permissible.  Immediately after the Abstract, provide a maximum of 5 keywords.  Equations must be clearly printed and numbered sequentially with Arabic numbers enclosed with round parentheses at the right-hand margin.

All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references following the text of the manuscript.  Within the text, indicate references by number(s) between slashes in line with the text.  In the list of References, number the references in the order in which they appear in the text.  Abbreviations for the titles of journals should follow the system used by the Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index, 1970 edition, and supplements.

References to books should include the following information: title, publisher, town of publication, year of publication and page number.  This information should also be given for published proceedings or abstracts of conferences, together with the location and date of the meeting.

For submission in hardcopy, do not import figures into the text.
Photographs should be submitted on a glossy paper with good contrast and brightness.  Figure numbers should be clearly identified, preferably in pencil on the reverse side.  Line drawings should be submitted, preferably in the actual size at which they should be published, so that the axes titles, caption, lines and symbols are all clear and in proper size.  They should be laser printed.  Tables should be numbered consecutively and given suitable caption, each table being laid out on a new page.  No vertical rules should be used.  Tables should not duplicate results presented elsewhere in the manuscript (for example, in figures).  Footnotes to tables should be typed below the table and should be referred to by superscript lowercase letters.  All figures and tables must be accompanied by clear legends and should be numbered and cited in the text.  If possible, consult a recent issue of the journal to become familiar with layout and conventions.

Each paper should be consistent within itself as to abbreviations, symbols and units.  Follow internationally accepted rules and conventions: use the international system of units (SI).  If other quantities are mentioned, give their equivalent in SI.  Temperatures should be given in ºC.  The unit 'billion' (109 in America, 1012 in Europe) is ambiguous and must not be used.

Axes for graphs and headings for tables should be given in quantity calculus form, e.g. times as t (s), potential as E (mV vs. SHE), current density as i (mA/cm2).

Papers submitted for publication in Corrosion Reviews must be written in good English.  Any paper written in poor English will be returned to the authors for revision.  Alternatively, the publisher may offer his service, for charge.  Otherwise, publication in this journal is free of charge.

An electronic version of the text should be submitted together with the final hardcopy of the manuscript.  The electronic version must match the hardcopy exactly.  We accept most word-processing formats, although MS-Word is preferable.  Always keep a backup copy of the electronic file for reference and safety.  Label disk with the corresponding author name and software used.  Save your files using the default extension of the program used.

Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors, and that – if accepted – it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the Publisher.

Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their paper by the Editors-in-Chief.  The Editors-in-Chief reserve the right to return manuscripts that do not conform to the instructions for manuscript preparation and artwork instruction, as well as papers that do not fit the scope of the journal, prior to refereeing.
