JOURNAL OF BASIC AND CLINICAL PHYSIOLOGY AND
PHARMACOLOGY
INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
1. Three copies of the manuscript, one set of quality glossy
prints or original ink drawings and a diskette should be submitted to one of
the Editors. All manuscripts solicited or otherwise will be subject to review.
Every effort will be made to notify authors promptly of editorial decisions.
All manuscripts are received on the understanding that they have not been
submitted to other journals or news media.
2. Rapid communications will be processed on the basis of a yes or no
decision and no revisions will be required or permitted. They should be limited
to approximately 1,500 words, with an abstract of 100 words, up to three
figures and/or tables, and up to 10 references.
3. Case reports will not generally be accepted, except where the
observations throw new light on clinical or basic mechanisms.
4. Presentation of Manuscripts: Manuscripts should be typewritten
(double spaced) on good quality white bond paper, with adequate (3 cm) margins.
Where the manuscript has been produced on a word processor or other computer,
please ensure that it is double spaced. There should be no footnotes, except
for a list of abbreviations.
(a) All papers will be published in
English; manuscripts must be submitted in English.
(b) The title should be given on a
separate sheet; the author's full name and address following on separate lines.
In the case of co-authors, affiliations and addresses should be clearly
indicated. Correspondence will be sent to the first-named author, unless
otherwise specified.
(c) Original research papers should be divided into the usual sections,
e.g., Introduction; Materials & Methods; Results (&) Discussion;
Conclusions. An abstract is required.
(d) A table of contents and a short
abstract (about 150 words) should precede each review.
(e) Tables should be typed double-spaced, each on a separate sheet, and
identified by Arabic numerals corresponding to the order in which they appear
in the manuscript. A brief explanatory title should head the tables as well as
each table column. Tables should not repeat data which are available elsewhere,
e.g. in a line diagram.
(f) Illustrations. Original line drawings should be submitted and
should include all relevant details. Drawings should be twice the final size.
The lettering and symbols must be clear and sufficiently large to permit the
necessary reduction of size in photographic reproduction.
(g) Each figure should be referred to in the text and numbered
accordingly in sequence with Arabic numerals. All figures submitted should be
identified lightly on the back, with the appropriate number and with the name
of the author(s). Figure legends should be typed on a separate sheet and placed
at the end of the manuscript. The amount of lettering on a drawing should be
minimised as far as possible by transferring it to the legend. The approximate
location of figures and tables should be marked in the body of the manuscript.
(h) Black and white photographs with
strong contrast should be submitted on glossy paper.
(i) Equations, when included, should be serially numbered. All
such equations should not be typed but should be written by hand with
particular attention paid to the formation of letters and characters so no
ambiguity exists between the 'letter' "I" and the 'number' "1"
or between zeros and the 'letter' "o". This also applies in the main
text.
(j) Keywords: Authors are requested to select up to five
keywords, which are not included in the title. These should be located below
the Abstract.
(k) References: Number references
consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text.
Identify references in text, tables, and legends by Arabic numerals (in
parentheses). In the reference section at the end, initials should follow the
surname of each author. Abbreviation of journal titles should conform to the
format of Index Medicus. List all authors. The full title of the cited
reference must be included. Following are examples of references:
1. Standard journal article:
Repsher LH, Anderson JH, Bush RK, Falliers CJ, Kass, Kamp
JP. Assessment of tachyphylaxis following prolonged therapy of asthma with
inhaled albuterol aerosol. Chest 1984; 85: 101-109.
2. Book:
Weiss EB. Status Asthmaticus. Baltimore:
University Park Press, 1978; 101-103.

St Louis: CV Mosby, 1982; 151-158.
Personal communications should not be included in the list of references, but
may be cited in the text in parentheses.
5. Ethics of the Investigation: All investigations
involving man or animal experiments must conform with the Helsinki
Recommendations and the "Guiding Principles in the Care and Use of
Animals".
6. Copyright Responsibility: This is clearly the author's
own responsibility. If any figure(s), illustration(s), table(s) or extended
quotation(s), etc., are to be taken from material(s) previously published, the
author(s) must secure reproduction permission from the copyright owner.
Only original papers will be accepted, and
copyright in published papers will be vested in the publisher.
7. Transfer of Author Copyright: Please include a signed
release of copyright to Freund Publishing House, Ltd. with your manuscript.
Include the title of the article being submitted, as well as the date. Include
the signatures of co-authors. Letters to the Editor should include the words
"For Publication" to serve as assignment of copyright.
8. Manuscript Editing: All accepted manuscripts are
subject to manuscript editing.
9. Reprints: 25 reprints of each paper will be provided
free of charge. Additional copies in multiples of a hundred may be purchased on
a reprint order form which will accompany the proofs. Reprints will be sent to
the first-named author unless otherwise indicated.
10. Galley Proofs: These must be returned
within 4 days. Please check the text carefully but try to avoid changes that
necessitate alterations in the original text. Authors will be billed for all
alterations not arising out of errors in composition of the original
manuscript.
The original manuscript and diagrams will be
discarded one month after publication unless there is a written request for the
material to be returned to the author.
