Plasma assisted external coating of plastics hollow bodies

Abstract

      One particularly interesting method for improving the barrier properties of PET bottles is the application of a coating by plasma polymerization. This paper gives a short overview of different existing methods. The main focus of the paper lies on the description of a newly developed plant suitable to improve the permeation barrier properties of hollow bodies made of plastics by application of an exterior thin coating made by microwave assisted plasma polymerization.
