Abstract:

Two types of compatibilizer precursors (CPs), Zinc-neutralized ethylene/acrylic copolymer (CPa) and non-neutralized ethylene/acrylic copolymer (CPb), were selected to modify polyamide 6 (PA6). The convenient homogenous blends were prepared to study the compatibility of CPs by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) and atomic force microscope (AFM). The results show that CPa is more compatible than CPb. Bottles were prepared by a laminar-blend blow-molding process; and the bottles blow-molded from a series of high density polyethylene (HDPE) / MPAa samples exhibited better barrier properties. This is because the MPAa is more compatible with HDPE than MPAb with. Further morphology analysis demonstrated that HDPE/MPAa systems are easier to form a multi-layer structure.
